IF you are serious , seeking justification & Don't want to read a tome. This is your book. Not deep theologically. Doesn't list biblical argumentation as in Paul in Romans. Simple & to the issue. Religion has piled layers of man made teachings on top of the gospel of Christ. The reformation uncovered the gospel only to be layered over again by the RCC. A good book for seekers of being right with A HOLY RIGHTEOUS God.
Plan to re-read as it is motivating in explaining justification by faith and the way the teaching of it has been mis-handled by so many denominations.
I'm always a little sceptical reading Christian doctrine from authors I am not familiar with. Made an exception here and was pleasantly surprised. I believe this little book to be sound and informative.
This is the first time I have read the "justification" teaching in detail and with an open mind. I have to say the book was informative and stirred me to curiousity about the origins of Christianity (and look further). I may not agree about this teaching but it has given me a perspective and starts to understand where it is coming from.
How does one justify the fact of our possible justification before God?
...with Scripture, careful thought and reasonable dialogue to communicate the truth plainly and gently. Again Drs Philip and Cherian show they know how to do this, pointing to the truth of God without using the language from the ivory towers removed from the common person.
The beginning premise is that we all have the tendency to justify ourselves, and if need be assign blame to someone else. All religions about God or gods which we develop are human-centered, and teach that there is some form of effort or work on our part needful to become right with God. But this is not the case with the worship of God according to the Bible - not in the Old or New Covenant portions.
Step by step this book moves carefully along explaining what we know of ourselves and others, pointing out how we can see this work in real time history, and what the Bible says without getting into doctrinal tangles.
For some there is information within that they may not have ever dealt with, for others this may all be new. That's alright, because if one wishes to investigate these things it is readily verifiable - whether in a library, from good resources online, with talking to folks who actually read and study these things.
We are justified by faith in God through the life and work of our living Savior Jesus, and this truth has been suppressed over and again -- even in churches and private convictions. I urge you to read this work for introduction or learning more. Quote "though all doctrines are spelled out clearly in the Scriptures, not all doctrines are always clearly understood by people."
On our own we are not good enough, we cannot do enough things to change that fact, and we cannot explain our guilt away by refusing to accept it. Those who are justified before God have always had to have faith in God on God's terms, and God has not allowed humanity to hide that fact for very long before intervening and making it known again.
This is not a book according to the teaching of a particular Tradition or denomination, nor of a particular period of history. I recommend it for all folks to read no matter their progress in life and maturity.
